Outdoor elevators : Guaranteeing the strength of your doors
Exposed to the elements, outdoor elevators must withstand rain and humidity. Waterproofing is therefore a key factor to ensure their durability and proper functioning.
Why install an outdoor elevator ?
he installation of an outdoor elevator can be motivated by various reasons :
- To facilitate access for people with reduced mobility (PRM) in old buildings where it is not possible to install an indoor elevator.
- To comply with accessibility regulations for public buildings (ERP).
- The inability to integrate an elevator inside the building due to insufficient space in the shaft.
- Depending on the environment where the elevator is installed, it can help facilitate access to upper levels, such as in warehouses or industrial buildings.
Installing an outdoor elevator is therefore a solution that allows accessibility and adaptability to the technical constraints of buildings.
Specificities of an elevator door installed outdoors
An outdoor landing door must :
- Have IP54 door contacts to protect against dust, splashes, and water projection, which is important for an elevator exposed to moisture and rain.
- Have covers around the locking mechanism to prevent water splashes. These covers act as shields against the elements.
- Have a stainless steel threshold with drainage holes to evacuate rainwater, preventing water accumulation and improving safety.
- Have a minimum finish of 304L stainless steel to prevent corrosion and rust on the components.
At Slycma, we chose INOX 304L for its exceptional resistance and superior quality. This alloy is known for its robustness against corrosion, easy maintenance, and durability, even in outdoor or humid environments. By using INOX 304L, we guarantee reliable and durable installations, meeting the strictest requirements.
And for an even more resistant door ?
For optimal protection near the sea, we use 316L finish stainless steel, specially designed to withstand saline environments and extreme conditions. Thanks to its high molybdenum content, this alloy offers excellent corrosion resistance, even against sea spray. A high-quality choice for maximum durability.
