The lift market in 2025
Rethinking housing to meet the new challenges of our decade : accessibility of the building stock, renovation of condominiums, management and supply of electronic components…
So many priority issues to meet the environmental and societal challenges to which the Fédération des Ascenseurs wishes to commit itself and in which we participate.
For the 2025 period, a series of priorities and projects have been put forward, including :
- Park accessibility
- A partnership with lift installers to promote the smooth operation of the lifts.
- Management and supply of components, particularly electronic components
Objective no 1: Highlight the performance of the existing lift park and promote the essential role played by lifts in our day-to-day mobility
Key figures for lifts :
- 637,000 lifts in France, 60% of which are in residential buildings
- A large number of lifts, particularly in housing, to ensure accessibility everywhere.
- Approximately 12,000 new lifts/years
- With 0.4% renovation of the existing stock
- 100 million journeys per day
- An essential means of transport
- An availability rate of over 99
- A breakdown occurs on average less than 3 times a year per lift
- Less than 4 hours on average to get lifts back into service in the event of a breakdown
- Fast intervention times by technicians
- 50% of lifts are over 25 years old and 25% are over 40 years old
- Robust, high-performance equipment that lasts over time
Objective 2 : Partnership with lift installers to promote the professionalism and smooth operation of lifts
Lift technicians play an essential role in ensuring that lifts work properly and are safe, and in achieving continuous progress.
A technician inspects a lift every 6 weeks and informs users of his last visit in the cars. These checks comply with very precise regulatory requirements. They ensure that the lifts are working properly, that passengers are safe and that breakdowns are avoided.
To support and train our customers in the use of our products, we provide video tutorials on fitting, assembly and door replacement.
They are all available on our ‘tutorials’ menu.
Our technical sales representatives offer :
- On-site support with technical surveys,
- Video surveys when the urgency of the request cannot wait for them to come,
- Telephone advice to help technicians take the measurements required to be lnown to replace a door.

Objective 3 : Management and supply of electronic components
The lift is a means of daily transport that is subject to rules of good use, as it is a self-service public asset in a collective building.
Proper use requires equipment to be adapted to users and traffic, regular maintenance by technicians, regular upgrades and compliance with the rules for using the lift.
In France, the average number of breakdowns per lift is less than 3 per year. In the event of a breakdown, the main objective is to get the old equipment back into service as quickly as possible. As a reminder, 50% of the 637,000 machines are over 25 years old and 25% are over 40 years old.
Spare parts are kept for 10 years after the door model has been phased out, so that all elevators fitted with Slycma products can be repaired. We have also developed several solutions for repairing other brands of doors. The main part of our spare parts are available from stock.
